I have some awesome models of the Millennium Falcon and some incredible art, but one of the best things about focus collecting are the weird and wonderful items that you find along the way. Take this Millennium Falcon drum by Native American artist Dallin Maybee (loosely translated as “Thunder Sound Comes Down”) is seen on Uncle Paulie’s World website.
Dallin says that the shape of the Falcon easily lends itself to being immortalized as a drum.
The drum itself is made with with a maple wood frame and a carved basswood extension covered by elk rawhide. Dallin then painted it with a metallic base and augmented it with ink. “Of course, it was easier to take the round hand drum and adapt it rather than to try and stretch the rawhide around the shape of the Millennium Falcon,” says Maybee. The Death Star drumstick is a brain tan buckskin ball attached to a handle which Maybee painted with acrylic.
Very cool, very unusual and i would imagine, very expensive. Alas, not an item that I’ll be in a position to add to my collection.
