Mike recently went to see Steve Sansweets’ collection at Rancho Obi Wan and sent me some really nice photos of Millennium Falcon related pieces in his [Steve’s] collection. One of those items was an incredible fan made model of the Millennium Falcon. It looks like it’s been made from beaten tin or aluminium and has copper wire detailing on the sidewalls. It’s an incredible piece of work and has just blown me away.
The artist has made two internal compartments, one at the front showing the main recreational area and one at the rear showing the engine room.
I think the Ramp’s a nice touch too.
I’d like to see what the model looks like with the cover plates on. It’s difficult to gauge the size of this model, but i’d estimate that it’s got to be at least three feet long. I dread to think how heavy something like this must be. Unfortunately, Mike wasn’t able to get any details of the artist and a google search proved to be fruitless.
Check out Mike’s collection here, as he’s added some nice new photos in the Random Images section.
16/12/12: Wow, i just received this email from Steve Sansweet himself letting me know about this piece.
“Howdy—
Thanks for the nice post and photos of my metal Millennium Falcon. It was made about 5 or 6 years ago by a very talented artist in Mexico named Antonio Diaz. He’s a playwright and theater director, but he loves Star Wars and makes metal vehicles in his off time. The pieces are usually made of very thin aluminum sheeting, which is worked on from the back side to get the bulges and lines and the front side to get more of the details. I’ve gotten many pieces from Antonio, but this is the largest and most impressive. It is about three feet long, but weighs just a couple of pounds because of the lightweight material. This was Antonio’s most complex piece, and he worked on it for about a month.
Regards,
Steve”
Thanks, Steve
Reblogged this on Collecty.net.
This is a piece that I would love to have. Very cool.
Yes, it is quite something, isn’t it?
I don’t imagine that Steve has a lot of unofficial items in his collection, but those that he does have are going to be spectacular.
Hi. Im Antonio Díaz Altamirano, the guy who built this Steve Sansweet`s Millennium Falcon. I made it from aluminum thin plate. I built this one about a 7 or 8 years ago. Since that I made some progress in developing some thechniques for scratch building using metal. I work just Star Wars models. Before I sent this Falcon to Sansweet I was working in another one I still have. This is a link of a forum where I post the work on progress:of this second Falcon: http://www.therpf.com/f11/scratchbuilding-millennium-falcon-66622/
This new model is now much more acurate and bassed on the 32^ ILM Falcon. If you want to see some actual images would be nice to share with you.
Greetings from México City.
Antonio
WOW, thanks Antonio. I’ll check that out.
