A newcomer to the Millennium Falcon search on Etsy is The Kessel Run by awareofyou (AKA Jason Christman). It’s part of a series of six posters, each depicting a different ship and has a different title depending on the ship. Naturally, the Kessel run is the Millennium Falcon.
They’re available as a large (16″ by 24″) and Small (7.5″ by 11″). At $45 for a large print, they’re a pretty good price. I do like them and i particularly like the use of colour on these prints. The Millennium Falcon’s a must have IMO, but i would like to have the set.
The Rest of the series is below:
Beggar’s Canyon (X-Wing)
That’s No Moon (Tie Fighter)
Cargo Hold (Slave 1)
Fly Casual (Imperial Shuttle Tyderium)
Diplomatic Mission (Tantive IV)
I’m really liking the texture and color on these, but there’s some inaccuracies in the Falcon that are kind of rubbing me the wrong way. The cockpit windows aren’t looking right to me, and there’s a missing equipment well in one of the mandibles. Somehow, when the art is straight-on like that, I expect the accuracy of a technical, blueprint-like drawing.
Also, I am missing any connection to the background to the Kessel Run itself. All the other ships seems to have a background that place it firmly in a place. The Falcon seems to be sitting on a bad coffee spill, or painter’s workbench. Or, maybe the Kessel Run is all spotty like that, I don’t know.
Cargo Hold is probably the most successful in terms of composition, I’d say.
I see where you’re coming from Mike, but i would imagine that the coffee spill was suns and nebula. I still like it despite its inaccuaracies. Besides, it’s nice to get another print where the Falcon is the subject, no9t just a detail.
Also, Jason has confirmed that he’s found another printer, so the price for the large one has gone down to $45. (He also said that he has another 6 images in the works so i’m quite looking forward to seeing them.)
Whoa! And he’s also fixed the missing equipment well on his etsy page! Nice!
I am imagining suns and nebulae as well, and I did read it as that. It’s just that in comparison, the others were so clear, I think I’d rather see a stylized galaxy in the background (like what we see at the very end of TESB) . Or something more space-y. Anyway, I’ll probably nab one of the smaller ones.
Fast work indeed. 🙂
As you say, all the others have definable backgrounds that clearly tie into the trilogy, but the Kessel Run’s so entrenched in our imagination as it’s crowning glory. It’d be difficult to pick another, stronger link for the Falcon IMO. (That said, Bespin Cloud City would’ve been nice in the background on an orange coloured backdrop.)
It is THE ship that made the Run in a famously short distance after all.
