Franklin Mint

Back in about 1995, Franklin Mint was huge for collectibles. They were particularely well known at the time for their pewter Star Trek starship models (which i still like). For some reason, there where only ever two Star Wars models released. The AT-AT and the Millennium Falcon. They were pretty expensive at the time at £195, but split into 10 monthly installments of £19.50 made the whole thing appear quite reasonable. I really like this and find it quite nostagic. While not up to today’s production standards, It was pretty detailed and had gold accents on the Deflector dish and cannons. Personally, i could never see the point of this. I would argue (often unsuccessfully) that this was one of the very first Star Wars High end items.

I’m also very curious as to how “limited” these things are. I don’t know if Franklin Mint ever numbered these (i’ve never seen anything on mine) as i think that they were limited by only being available for a certain amount of time. I’d love to find out. Anyone know?

There was a special release of a 24K Gold one. I’ve looked for it on ebay and recently lost out on one at $140 plus postage. At least i know what i can expect to pay fo one of those in the future. Agan, if anyone sees one up for sale, let me know.

About mffanrodders

A keen Star Wars collector since 1977, my collection focus seems to have taken on a turn towards Han Solo's iconic Star Ship. Why the Millennium Falcon? No one else seemed to have one at the time and it was fair to say that i had difficulty resisting the higher end models. My friend, icruise from Rebelscum has a superb blog for his Jabba the Hutt collection, I thought that i'd start this blog to chart my own collection of Millennium Falcon related collectibles as it increases.
